Fans of food, festivals, and yachting will want to mark their calendars for Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 11am to 4pm for the Balboa Village Fest in Newport Beach, California. This free, family-friendly festival is the official kick-off of the world’s largest yacht race – the Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race, and offers something for everyone.
Held in the famous Balboa Village – home of the Fun Zone – on the Balboa Peninsula, Balboa Village Fest features the Second Annual Taste of Balboa, which offers signature dishes for purchase from popular Newport Beach restaurants. During the event, children will enjoy visiting exploration stations from ExplorOcean that celebrate and highlight the ocean from multiple perspectives, as well as trying their hands at chalk drawing and knot tying with the Newport Beach Sea Scouts. Kids of all ages will marvel at professional chalk art demonstrations and nautical displays.
In addition, famed U2 cover band, Hollywood U2, will perform and visitors can tour a selection of Newport to Ensenada race boats. At 1pm, attendees will watch a formal ceremony as officials from Newport Beach and Ensenada commemorate the 68th annual running of this international yacht race, and also unveil a painting commissioned for the occasion. Admission to the Balboa Village Fest and ExplorOcean is free.
